Establishment of School Library

Objective

To establish a well equipped library in the school of village Thathi Bhanguan that has been constructed on self-help basis and through private donations.

Justification of the Project

Establishment of a library is absolutely critical for the following reasons:

  • Absence of proper roads makes access to quality education very difficult.
  • Parents, with their very limited resources can not afford buying additional books for the children and buying quality books is simply out of their reach.
  • Children have very limited knowledge of the outside world.
  • Teachers need to be exposed to a variety of teaching methods.
  • Teachers themselves need to enhance their educational attainment.
  • Teachers’ and children’s thinking horizons are very narrow and needs to be widened.

In addition to constructing a space for the library it would be furnished with the following:

  • Over 1000 books, magazines and periodicals to begin with on a variety of subjects including history, health, nutrition, environment, agriculture, citizenship, mathematics, geography, science, IT, Urdu, Punjabi and English language learning. A good number of books would be on fiction in Urdu and English languages.
  • More than 100 books and other materials as reference for teachers to improve their teaching skills.
  • A selection of audio cassettes, audio CDs, videos and computer games.
  • Cyber Zone where students can access the internet and discover a range of on-line learning resources and information.

If children are not provided the opportunity to have access to a well equipped library, the energy and resources already invested could not yield the desired results.
