Community Development through Applied Education among Women

Khoj approach for adult education, inspired by the Paulo Freire's philosophy, is an endeavor that is directed towards empowerment of women and warrants a focus on a kind of alternative education that provokes critical consciousness, responds to the needs and interests of the learners, stirs creativity, gives a world view and independence of mind and facilitates decision making, and is learner centered and action oriented. Further, it has the distinction of being the only program in the country that does not focus only on literacy but offers a comprehensive alternative system of adult education that includes subjects ranging from human health to political education. The undercurrent and the cross cutting theme of the work has been gender equity and social justice.
