Khoj – Society
for People's Education has been working with the communities of more
than 20 villages in and around Qureshianwala Union Council. These villages
now fall in two districts after a new district under the name of Nankana
Saheb was carved out of the district of Sheikhupura.
An innovative approach of adult and children's education was experimented that
aims at community development and tries to be relevant and responsive
to the needs, problems and interests of the learners and the community
at large. The experiment proved to be a great success not only in responding
to illiteracy and providing relevant and quality education but in finding
solutions in the spheres of health care and livelihood earning in partnership
with the communities. Responding to the issues and problems in the area
Khoj launched a number of programs in different areas:
an educational program focused on women and children with active participation of men.
-
a model school for women and children based on Khoj methodology in the village Thathi Bhanguaan.
-
reconstruction and renovation of the building of Government Girls' Primary School in the village Mundi Kalan.
-
construction and establishment of a Health
centre in the village Thathi Bhanguaan.
-
adoption of non-functional Government primary schools in the area.
-
capacity building of the communities.
