The community
recognizes Khoj endeavors and in order to give an element of permanence
to the work on the ground and to ensure sustainability Khoj decided to
work for the construction of a
model school in the project area that accommodates not only the mainstream
schools subjects
but experiential learning in civic education, agriculture, nutrition
and health care, environment and
computer skills. It also provides a platform for women’s education
and development activities.
A local landholder from village Thathi Bhanguan donated a piece of land
measuring 1/ 4 of an
acre. It is planned to construct 14 rooms but in the first phase 2 rooms
were constructed. The
village community has provided labor and capital costs have been met
through individual and
private donations. In the second phase, three more rooms and three latrines
have been
constructed. These rooms accommodate a computer lab, a science lab and
three class rooms.
The school has an adjacent agricultural plot as well
for experiential learning. Four classes take
place the government girls’ school adopted by Khoj.
This educational facility offers education to 175 children of more than
six villages. |
