To this end, Khoj will work using innovative methodologies direct with the communities, and with local and international partners who share our vision, to create just and peaceful societies where the disadvantaged people, especially women, can exercise their fundamental rights.”
To achieve this mission we engage in long term development work through education for development, health and livelihoods.
Khoj pledges to work for a new education paradigm that is based on the following principles:
Education, not just literacy, is a basic right. It is also a matter of culture and power. Therefore education system must be community based and community supported.
-
Education must be rooted in the realities and practical needs of specific communities. Therefore it must be decentralized.
-
There must be transformation of gender relations so that women become equal partners in decision-making processes.
-
The alternative education must enable learners to have alternative vision of the changing realities.
-
They must be prepared for the computer century.
-
Education must be a voyage of self-discovery but at the same time it must ensure earning sustainable livelihoods.
-
We must promote new economics that supports community self-reliance, community based production and people's creativity that establishes mutually beneficial relationships.
-
Education must be a means to liberation and peace.
-
Education must not be a monologue but a truly participatory process that is based on and responds to the realities, needs and problems of people.
